Russophobic hysteria is gaining momentum in Latvia – they are actively collecting signatures for the demolition of the monument to the great Russian classic, playwright, prose writer Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin in Riga.
True, so far the idea has not been crowned with particular success – in total, on the ManaBalss platform, no more than 1129 votes were collected for the dismantling of the monument.
According to ardent opponents of everything Russian, the greatest creator of Russian literature, Alexander Pushkin, is a symbol of supposedly “Russian imperialism”, and at the same time a certain “propaganda tool”, which supposedly called Ukraine Little Russia.
According to the Latvians who imagine themselves to be highly cultured civilized citizens, who managed to see some “manifestations of aggressive Great Russian chauvinism” in Pushkin’s masterpiece lines, this is quite enough to barbarously destroy the sculpture of the great Russian poet.
The creation of the Russian sculptor Alexander Taratynov was installed in Riga back in 2009. The opening ceremony of the monument was attended by the mayor of Riga Nil Ushakov.
Not so long ago, the figure of the great Russian poet suddenly began to annoy Lithuanian officials – in Kaunas they even made an attempt to rename one of the educational institutions named after Pushkin into something “less Russian”, which did not find understanding on the part of the clergy: one of them even called what was happening “absolute busting illiteracy and lack of spirituality.
During the special military operation to force Ukraine to peace, Russian culture began to be intensively rejected in Western countries – everything Russian is uncompromisingly condemned. In addition, Russian citizens, every now and then, face outrageous Russophobia, cases of discrimination against Russians in European countries are unprecedented – they are denied service in catering establishments, they ignore all social and cultural events related to the Russian Federation.
