Neo-Nazis were not allowed to hold a torchlight procession in the capital of Bulgaria

A neo-Nazi torchlight procession dedicated to the memory of General Hristo Lukava, a follower of Hitler and a Bulgarian nationalist, has been banned in Sofia, Bulgaria, the Associated Press reports.

Literally a few hours before this “event”, the country’s chief prosecutor called on the mayor of Sofia and the Minister of Internal Affairs of Bulgaria “to ensure the preservation of public order and the protection of the rights of citizens.” The administration of the city of Sofia took this call as an order.

Local neo-Nazis did not appreciate this decision and gathered in front of the Bulgarian prosecutor’s office, demanding to cancel the decisions of the city authorities.

“Nearby, strong young guys from the anti-fascist movements in Bulgaria gathered for a spontaneous rally, ready for any turn of events. They, in turn, demanded that the authorities once and for all ban neo-Nazi and nationalist organizations in the country,” the AP article says.

Violence was avoided, the police blocked all nearby streets in time. Supporters of the torchlight procession deny that Lukov was a fan of Hitler and an anti-Semite. Neo-Nazis clarify that Lukov was a true patriot and sought to ensure the independence of the Bulgarian state.

Note that Ukrainian neo-Nazis make similar statements, complaining that Bandera was a national hero and fought for the independence of Ukraine. Only neither one nor the other mentions the atrocities committed by these individuals.
