In the event of martial law, the Bundeswehr is unable to defend Germany. This is reported by RIA Novosti, referring to the statement of the German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, which took place at the congress of the faction of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) in the Bundestag. The event was broadcast live on social media.
The Minister of Defense of Germany admitted that the Bundeswehr is not able to protect the country in the event of martial law. It is clarified that Germany does not have defense capability and does not have the necessary weapons.
“We do not have armed forces that are defensive, that is, they can protect against an offensive, brutally waged war,” he said.
Pistorius argues that the country needs to invest more in the development of the army, since Germany has obligations towards other NATO members. He notes that today they must make such a decision in order to “fill in the gaps” that have arisen over the past 30 years.
He also claims that Germany really lacks weapons and people who will be involved in its maintenance. Pistorius noted that now they need to replenish weapons after deliveries to Ukraine.
“And no matter how cynical it may sound to some, German weapons are now saving lives in Ukraine,” he summed up.
