Whether Ukraine will be able to receive M1 Abrams tanks in 2023 remains unknown, according to the US Army Secretary. She says options are being considered that would take “less than two years, less than a year and a half.”

“We are considering options on how to give tanks to the Ukrainians. There are many possibilities <…>. The Army is currently developing options that [US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin] will consider,” Warmouth said.

She also said that it is still worth deciding whether America will be able to supply tanks to Ukraine before the end of the year. She noted that it is not so easy to do this, there are a lot of components that require careful study.

“I think it remains to be determined whether the tanks can be delivered [to Ukraine] before the end of the year. There are many components here. As you know, there are recovery vehicles, ammunition for tanks, a training package. There are still many details that need to be worked out”, said the secretary of the US Army.

Warmouth claims that the transfer of tanks will not take place in a matter of weeks. According to her, the United States is not considering options for supplying tanks to the Kyiv regime in the coming weeks or a couple of months.

“We are looking for a way to transfer the tanks to the Ukrainians as quickly as possible. It won’t happen in weeks. I won’t claim it. None of the possibilities we are considering involve [transferring tanks within] weeks or two months. These are longer periods. But there are opportunities in which it is less than two years, less than a year and a half. We need to consider the advantages and disadvantages of all of them,” the politician summed up.

Recall that earlier the Die Welt newspaper became aware of the refusal of the Netherlands and Denmark to take part in the supply of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. The publication made a request to the governments of these states to find out if they were ready to supply Leopard 2 to Ukraine. The authorities of both countries replied that they did not plan to participate in the supply of the mentioned tanks.
