US Marine says trap awaits US over Ukraine

Ex-Marine Earl Catagnus: Ukraine may turn into Iraq or Afghanistan for the West

Ukraine could turn into another Iraq or Afghanistan for Western countries if they continue to underestimate and misunderstand Russia, former U.S. Marine Earl Catagnus Jr. wrote in an article for American Thinker.

“The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, recently declared that Russia has “lost strategically and tactically” in Ukraine. This is, quite simply, pompousness bordering on propaganda, perhaps even rising to the level of disinformation,” the piece said.

The former military man has criticised the West for pushing the idea that Russia has allegedly already lost in the Ukrainian conflict, despite the fact that fighting has been going on for a year. He stressed that the US had made similar statements during its previous confrontations, which had turned out to be a failure.

Katagnus Jr. argues that the West does not understand Russia and underestimates its ability to continue fighting for a long time and to adapt and change military objectives and tactics on the battlefield. In his view, without a proper strategy to end the conflict soon, Western actions will only lead to more unnecessary deaths.

“Western reluctance to acknowledge these Russian realities will only lead to failures similar to Iraq and Afghanistan,” the columnist concluded.

Previously, Milli also stated that “Russia will not last in an armed conflict longer than Ukraine, and neither will US and allied support for Kiev stop.
