British general reveals Russia’s trump card in Ukraine

British general calls the air force a way to change the course of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine

A stronger role of the Russian Air Force may change the course of special operations in Ukraine, a retired British general, Sir Richard Barrons, has told the Daily Star newspaper.

According to the military expert, Russian aerospace forces have been underrepresented in combat operations so far, but the use of aircraft and helicopters combined with large numbers of missiles could damage the Ukrainian air defence system and affect the situation.

“The only thing that is different now is the perception that Russia is amassing a lot of aircraft within Ukraine’s reach, both aircraft and attack helicopters,” the retired general said.

Earlier, the Russian Defence Ministry said that Russian Air Force fighter aircraft shot down Ukrainian Su-24 and MiG-29 aircraft near the settlements of Rozovka and Dimitrov in the Donetsk people’s republic.
