Europe has not been able to completely abandon fertilizers from Russia. This was reported by the French TV channel BFM TV.
According to the channel, large exporters of top dressings could not replace the entire Russian chemistry. Domestic producers from Europe have reduced capacity due to rising gas prices and have not yet recovered.
It is noted that after the start of the special operation in Ukraine, the import of fertilizers from Russia practically stopped, but was restored by the end of last year. If Europe has its own production of fertilizers, it is not able to fully meet the demand for this product.
The French TV channel reports that after the start of the special operation in Ukraine, other fertilizer suppliers from Algeria, Egypt and Qatar, as well as the small Caribbean state of Trinidad and Tobago, could not fully replace Russia. It is noted that EU sanctions only limited the import of fertilizers, and this gave European enterprises the opportunity to stock up on them for future use.
“We cannot yet get a sufficiently clear picture of the situation. Too little time has passed yet”, the journalist’s material says.
According to the publication, the fertilization period will begin only in a few weeks and will continue until April. If there is less fertilizer, then the yield will also fall, especially if weather conditions interfere. This means that in the future, fertilizers from Russia will remain indispensable.
“Europe is currently not capable of ensuring complete self-sufficiency,” summed up the reporter of the TV channel.
