The United States is discussing supplying Ukraine with fifth-generation fighter jets, including as part of Kiev’s long-term needs, Undersecretary of State Victoria Nuland said in a public interview with The Washington Post.
“We continue to have these talks both within [the US administration] looking at Kiev’s long-term [needs for] air defense and with Ukraine. Some countries in Europe are interested in providing these [aircraft]. And, as [US President Joe Biden] said [earlier], it is up to them to make this decision,” the diplomat was quoted by TASS as saying.
This is how she responded to a request to clarify whether the West is talking about the possibility of the West providing Kiev with fourth- and fifth-generation fighter jets.
“But again: we are talking about a changing picture where we are looking at what [exactly] Ukraine needs,” Nuland added.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed during his address to the Federal Assembly that the more long-range Western systems come to Ukraine, the further Russia will push the threat away from its borders.
