NATO countries have depleted stocks of artillery shells for supplies to Ukraine and see the task of increasing their production at a time when the conflict has entered the phase of a “war of attrition”, the alliance’s secretary general Jens Stoltenberg has said.
“The problem right now is that the consumption of shells exceeds our production. So far we have depleted our stockpiles,” he told CNN.
“Our main focus now is to increase production, because it’s a war of attrition now, a confrontation of logistics, and we need to supply the Ukrainians every day so that they continue to achieve results on the battlefield,” Stoltenberg added.
