The plaque on the Soviet Army monument, which reads “to the Soviet army the liberator from the grateful Bulgarian people,” was broken on the night of February 23. It happened hours before the anniversary of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.

“Today Russia celebrates Defenders of the Fatherland Day, which in Soviet times was called ‘the holiday of the Soviet Army’,” the publication notes.

The intruder was caught in the vicinity of the monument by a police patrol that arrived.
