The decision to suspend Russia’s participation in the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty (START) may be reconsidered if Western opponents realize their responsibility for the destruction of the global security system and get smart, said Leonid Slutsky, head of the State Duma International Committee.
“But let me draw your attention once again: Russia is not withdrawing from the treaty, we are suspending our participation! The decision is reversible and can be reconsidered if our Western opponents get smart and realise their responsibility for destroying the global security system,” Slutsky told reporters.
The State Duma on Wednesday, February 22, passed a law suspending Russia’s participation in the START Treaty.
In his address to the Federal Assembly, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia was suspending its participation in the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty.
