Gas exports to Europe are steadily returning to 2022 levels

The transit of Russian gas through Ukrainian territory continues to increase and, as contract prices converge with spot prices on the European market, Moscow is reaching last year’s figures, Kommersant reports.

The publication notes that today most of Gazprom’s supplies in the format of long-term contracts are sold at relatively low January quotations. However, spot gas prices are not declining due to prolonged cooling in different parts of Europe, and according to forecasts, even a decrease in European wind generation is possible.

Export deliveries of Gazprom to the EU countries through Ukraine continue to increase: the application for pumping at the Sudzha gas distribution center in the Kursk region on the border with Ukraine last weekend showed the maximum value this year, amounting to 39.2 million cubic meters per day.

In January, there was a decrease in pumping through Ukraine, but this was due to a drop in demand for long-term contracts. Prices really began to rise, while increasing the volume of gas supplies, but, despite this, they still did not reach the mark before the outbreak of hostilities, the newspaper notes.

Cold weather is likely to drag on until March, and this, in turn, will determine the activity in the supply of gas to heat Europe, the article says.
