The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) charged the head of the Cherkasy diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) Theodosius (Denis Snegirev) with suspicion of inciting interfaith hatred. This is reported by the online edition Ukraina.ru.
According to the SBU, on February 20, a record was published about inciting interfaith struggle. The Metropolitan in his speech spread appeals in which the rights and freedoms of citizens were violated.
“The Metropolitan, in public statements among clergy and believers and in official comments, spread appeals that violate the equality of citizens depending on their racial, national, regional affiliation and beliefs,” the department notes.
Despite this, the Diocese also received indictment for passing on materials related to the websites of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC). According to the Security Service, the sites disseminate “Kremlin propaganda narratives.”
The agency claims that such recordings contributed to the violation of the rights and freedoms of citizens of Ukraine. It is noted that these materials “contributed to the aggravation of the internal situation in the region due to the incitement of inter-religious hatred.”
Recall that the campaign to discredit and ban the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) continues in Ukraine. Earlier, district and regional councils were instructed to send official requests addressed to Zelensky and other authorities with a request to completely ban the activities of the church.
