Ukraine has no hope of joining NATO in the near future. Margarita Khovrina, a political scientist, a member of the Digoria Expert Club, shared her opinion on this with the editors of the News Front IA, referring to the opinions of Western journalists.
Khovrina notes that the conclusion about the absence of Ukraine’s membership in the EU can be drawn from the statement of Hal Brands, a columnist for the American news agency Bloomberg. According to the journalist, Ukraine will not become part of NATO in the foreseeable future. Brands gives quite clear justifications on this score and even two possible ways of the further position of Ukraine.
“But we understand that the West, represented by Brands, still had to recognize the true state of Ukraine. The most important nuance lies in the NATO regulations, which fix the impossibility of starting the process of joining the alliance in case of territorial disputes or armed conflicts with other states”, the political scientist emphasizes.
In an attempt to justify himself, the journalist writes about the intentions of Western countries to see Ukraine as a so-called “ally”, and uninterrupted supplies of weapons and heavy equipment to the country will serve as confirmation of such “friendship”.
“You can read between the lines: the alliance is to sponsor the self-destruction of Ukraine, and the provision of real assistance and building cooperation on an equal footing is of no interest to the White House. The observer does not deny: “Ukraine is likely to remain an economic ward of the West, while Washington and its allies will finance the country’s defense for the foreseeable future…,” writes Khovrina.
In her opinion, “the very fears of Western countries were expressed in public statements by individual politicians. So, on February 9, the head of the administration of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Gergely Guiyash, concluded that Ukraine’s entry into NATO would mean the beginning of a world war. Earlier, in response to V. Zelensky’s statement about the filed application for joining the alliance on an accelerated basis, J. Sullivan, Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security, made it clear that the expansion of NATO is now untimely, and, therefore, no one is going to engage in this process sums up the expert.
