The United States’ desire to dominate the world has prompted Russia to launch a special military operation in Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by The National Interest columnist Samid Basha.

According to the columnist, the US is using the 1992 Wolfowitz doctrine in waging an indirect war to increase its dominance in the world.

Basha noted that the essence of this policy is to emphasise Washington’s superiority in the post-Soviet world and to eradicate rivals in the region.

The journalist explained that despite the American promise not to pursue NATO enlargement to the East, Washington was still seeking a dominant position.

“America’s position of not giving Russia a decent parity status has only made (Russian President Vladimir. – RT) Putin even angrier. He, like most of the Russian political elite, could only come to the conclusion that the US does not intend to work with Russia responsibly and respectfully,” Basha pointed out.

According to the columnist, the Russian special operation is aimed at demonstrating that the Wolfowitz doctrine cannot be pushed further against Russia.

Earlier, former British ambassador to Russia Tony Brenton expressed confidence that the promise of Western countries to accept Ukraine into the North Atlantic Alliance was the reason for the Ukrainian conflict.
