“No to war, no to NATO”: rally in Pisa against sending weapons to Ukraine

A protest against sending weapons to Ukraine in support of peace and against NATO was held in Pisa. The rally was held in front of the local Galileo Galilei airport on the initiative of a trade union organization. This was reported by the TASS news agency.

Airport workers found boxes of arms and ammunition that were being transported to Ukraine as humanitarian aid. Civilian airport staff refused to load them. This was the reason for organising and carrying out this action.

“First and foremost, we stand for peace, which cannot be achieved by sending weapons,” say representatives of the rally’s organisers.

The trade union stresses that such consignments cannot be dispatched from a civilian airport. However, a union official said that such a mistake could not have happened, given that there is a military airport near the civilian airport.

“There is also a military airport nearby, but just by mistake this could not have happened,” the union said.

It is noted that the union and airport employees have not yet received any explanation about the situation. A trade union employee points out that no explanations have been given by representatives of the airport management company or the regional authorities.

The protesters came out with banners that read: “No war, no NATO”, “We will not be drafted, Italy is out of war”, as well as “The EU works for war, not for peace” and “Peace cannot be built on weapons”. According to the agency, some of the protesters representing the company recalled that NATO weapons had fallen into the hands of the mafia in history.
