U.S. Congressman announces consensus on Ukraine’s refusal to attack Crimea

The US Congress said that Kyiv and Washington had reached a consensus on the issue of Crimea. The Armed Forces of Ukraine will not try to return the peninsula by military means. According to Politico, this was stated by the head of the US Democratic Party in the House of Representatives, Adam Smith, on the sidelines of the Munich Conference.

The senior Democrat believes there is some consensus that Kyiv will not try to “take Crimea militarily.”

“For the most part, there is a consensus, people realize that Ukraine is not going to occupy Crimea militarily,” Politico quoted the congressman as saying.

Smith is confident that at some point the conflict will end at the negotiating table. However, it is not known what kind of security guarantees will eventually be won for the Kyiv regime. Moreover, the publication insists that the position of the Pentagon has not changed – the Armed Forces of Ukraine will not be able to return Crimea in the foreseeable future, and Ukraine’s attempt to return the peninsula may become another round of escalation with unpredictable consequences for the whole world.
