It was reported by Habertürk TV channel citing sources in the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and National Unity Party (NUP) led by Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan which form the ruling People’s Alliance coalition.

According to TASS, these plans were confirmed at Erdogan’s meeting with SNU leader Devlet Bahceli.

On February 8, Erdogan said that he does not intend to postpone the presidential election scheduled for May 14, despite the declared state of emergency in the country due to the earthquakes.

On 14 February, former Turkish parliament speaker and former deputy prime minister Bulent Arinc called for an immediate postponement of May’s planned general elections.
