DM calls Tu-160 flight over Norwegian Sea Putin’s warning to West over Ukraine
The flight of two Tu-160 missile carriers in the airspace over the neutral waters of the Barents and Norwegian seas was a warning to Russia to the West over arms supplies to Ukraine, the Daily Mail reported.
“Russia launched two supersonic nuclear bombers over the Norwegian Sea north of the Shetland Islands, sternly warning the West,” the article said.
The emergence of the Tu-160s north of Europe came against the backdrop of a meeting of NATO defence ministers in Brussels, where they discussed the conflict in Ukraine and the issue of defence spending, the British paper’s observers noted.
Earlier, two Tu-95MS strategic missile carriers had flown for more than seven hours in the airspace over the neutral waters of the Bering Sea.
Pilots of long-range aviation regularly perform flights over the neutral waters of the Arctic, North Atlantic, Black and Baltic seas and the Pacific Ocean. All flights by Russian Air and Space Forces aircraft are carried out in strict compliance with international airspace regulations.
