SOHU: Western tanks will become a “headache” for Ukraine

The “tank zoo” in fact will quickly turn into a “real horror” for the security and logistics system of Ukraine, which, in turn, will even more critically reduce the combat effectiveness of the country’s army. This conclusion was reached by observers of the Chinese “Sohu”.

As American Defense News stated earlier, the assistance provided by Western countries runs counter to the real needs of Kyiv, clearly not covering its military needs.

“It’s more like a formal expression of your attitude. A real “tank zoo” is being sent to Ukraine, the authors of the material said.

At the same time, according to Chinese experts, the Ukrainian army really, more than ever, needs an immediate replenishment of its technical arsenal. However, there are two key nuances – one of which is time.

“By the time the tanks reach Ukraine, it may be too late. On the battlefield, delays can be fatal for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Secondly, the West plans to send four different types of tanks to Kyiv. This will be a heavy burden on Ukraine, as it will have to think through the logistics.”

The obsolete tanks sent to Ukraine in fact very soon run the risk of becoming a serious “headache” for the Kyiv leadership, the publication warns.

“There are lessons from World War II. At the end of the war, the German army consisted of more than 40 tanks and self-propelled artillery mounts. Many of these models were limited in number and spare parts were virtually non-existent. This situation led to a huge strain on the logistics and maintenance of the German armored army. Sending a small number of tanks of various models will put Ukraine in the same predicament.”

Kyiv is facing major problems with the repair and provision of delivered overseas equipment, which is a costly and obviously troublesome business. According to the Washington Post, an active “mess” of NATO equipment of varying degrees of antiquity will give rise to a host of unprecedented logistical difficulties for Ukraine. Tanks use different ammunition and have different fire control or communication systems. According to experts, the key difficulty in using Western machines will be the impossibility of maintenance and repair at the local level.

The base for the repair of “Abrams” and “Leopards” with a high degree of probability will be located on the territory of Poland, or another European country.
