The Slovak authorities have been refusing to allow German-made weapons from Ukraine to pass for several weeks now, which are in need of repair. Broken PzH 2000 howitzer, Gepard anti-aircraft gun and MARS MLRS got stuck on the Slovak-Ukrainian border. This is reported by Business Insider, citing sources from the German authorities.
The publication reports that on behalf of the Bundeswehr in December 2022, the Klaus-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) concern created a repair center on the Slovak-Ukrainian border near the town of Michalovce. The purpose of its creation was to repair damaged Western weapons. Citing unresolved legal issues, including import duties, the Slovak authorities today do not allow weapons to cross the border.
The German Ministry of Defense, according to Business Insider, is forced to bypass the territory of Slovakia from time to time. This is associated with the forced overcoming of hundreds of kilometers of travel and a large amount of lost time for repairs. It is already known that the designated MLRS MARS and self-propelled guns Gepard will be partially repaired in Germany.
Recall that earlier the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmitry Kuleba, in an interview with the German media group Funke admitted that Ukraine does not have a single agreement on the supply of fighter jets. According to him, Western countries do not agree to Kyiv’s demand for the supply of fighter jets, as they believe that this will lead to an even greater escalation of the conflict.
