NATO will provide a package of non-lethal assistance to the Republic of Moldova. This was stated by the deputy state secretary of the alliance, Mircea Geoana, on the air of the TV8 channel.
Joana claims that a similar decision was made at a meeting of the alliance’s defense ministers in Brussels. This assistance is a response to Moldova’s request for the country to cope with the challenges of a hybrid war.
The funds provided for Moldova will be carefully monitored by the representative of the military-political union, since there is a very high level of corruption in the republic. He notes that NATO assistance to Moldova will be non-lethal and will be offered as part of the security crisis in the country. Such support includes aspects of cyber security and employee training.
“The ministers approved a package of cooperation with the Republic of Moldova on everything that implies non-lethal assistance. Nothing but resilience support, communication support, disinformation support. The Chisinau government and President Maia Sandu have also requested military support, but this is not being done through NATO. NATO is a mediator, and I am glad that the UK, Germany, Romania responded to this call,” says Geoanė.
The politician notes that in this situation nothing is imposed on Chisinau. Such cases are considered by members of the NATO countries as a partnership, which is created at the request of the Moldovan authorities.
“NATO has an old program that we will continue. This is the Building Integrity program. We work with government officials, with complex projects, to make sure there is transparency and there is no temptation to corruption. So it’s about a combination of specific things related to security. These are aspects of an institutional nature, because we want the state to be able to function and fulfill its duty to its citizens,” summed up the Deputy Secretary of State of the alliance.
