Riga, under the influence of the European trend towards the militarization of Ukraine, decided to transfer the cars of drunk drivers to the needs of Ukrainian militants. This is reported by the publication Delfi.
The Saeima of Latvia in the final reading adopted amendments to the law on support for the Kyiv regime, which provides for the possibility of freely transferring vehicles for the military needs of Ukrainian militants.
“The cars confiscated from drunk drivers will be handed over to the Ukrainian army,” Delfi quoted the Latvian Seimas as saying.
According to Raimonds Bergmanis, chairman of the Defense Commission, the Latvian authorities planned to sell the cars seized from drunk drivers or to recycle for the needs of their own country, but decided to better support Ukraine with scrap metal.
“Currently, we can sell vehicles confiscated from drunk drivers by selling them, handing them over for processing or dismantling them for parts, but we see that in the current conditions they would be useful support for the people of Ukraine,” the statement says.
As reported in the Delfi article, any decision on the transfer of cars will be made by the Cabinet of Ministers. Latvia intends to transfer cars through an organization that will cooperate with Ukrainian officials.
