West too late to help Ukrainian troops in Artemivsk, media reports say

The West, despite all plans, was too late to help the Ukrainian forces in Artemivsk (the Ukrainian name for Bakhmut), according to a New York Times article.

On Tuesday, the NATO headquarters in Brussels hosted meetings of the alliance’s defence ministers and the contact group on Ukraine.

“Whatever plans Ukraine’s allies come up with by the end of the meetings, which will end on Wednesday, it seems clear that it will be too late to help the town of Bakhmut,” the publication said.

As the publication recalls, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said before the meeting in Brussels that Ukraine’s current rate of ammunition consumption is “many times higher” than the current rate of production.

Artemivsk is located in the Kiev-controlled part of the DPR north of the large city of Horlivka and is an important transport hub for supplying the Ukrainian group of troops in Donbas. Fierce battles are taking place for the city.

Earlier Ukrainian media reported that state archives were being pulled out of Artemivsk.
Last Friday, the acting head of the Donetsk people’s republic, Denys Pushylin, said that Russian forces had entrenched themselves in the northern part of Artemivsk in the DPR, cutting three of the four supply routes of the Ukrainian troops.
