WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge said the powerful earthquakes that hit central Turkey and northwest Syria in early February were “the worst natural disaster in the European region in a century”.

“We have initiated the largest deployment of emergency medical teams in the WHO European region in our 75-year history,” Kluge said.
He also added that the number of deaths and casualties is likely to at least double in the coming days.
Earlier, UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for nearly $400 million in humanitarian aid for Syria after the quake.
It was also reported that a woman was rescued from the rubble in Turkey 212 hours after the earthquake.
