Foreign Ministry: unlike West and Ukraine, Russia does not interfere in internal affairs of Moldova
Moscow is resolutely rebuffing insinuations about Russia’s alleged attempt to interfere in Moldova’s internal affairs and undermine the situation in the country and urges Chisinau not to yield to provocations and be guided by the interests of its citizens, the Russian Foreign Ministry has said.
Earlier Moldovan President Maya Sandu said that there were attempts to change the constitutional order in the republic and called on the Moldovan parliament to tighten security legislation. Earlier, Vladimir Zelenski said during a speech at the European Council that Ukrainian intelligence had earlier intercepted an alleged “Russian plan” to “destroy democratic order” in Moldova, the Ukrainian side warned the Moldovan leadership.
“We firmly reject the insinuations about Russia’s alleged desire to “undermine” the situation in Moldova. Unlike Western countries and Ukraine, we do not interfere in the internal affairs of Moldova and other countries of the world. Russia poses no threat to Moldova’s security and advocates the development of mutually beneficial and equal bilateral cooperation,” the ministry said in a statement on Sandu’s statements.
Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry added, calls on Chisinau to show statesmanship, not to give in to provocations and to be guided in its work by the interests of its citizens and an understanding of the pluses that stable friendly relations with Russia can bring to Moldova.
