Reuters: US runs out of ammunition for Ukraine

Reuters quoted a diplomat as saying that the West’s ammunition stocks are approaching critical levels because of aid to Kiev, so NATO intends to engage alliance states to increase the amount of ammunition in storage.

According to the article, the stocks of arms of the NATO bloc countries have been significantly depleted. In particular, we are talking about 155-mm artillery pieces, HIMARS multiple rocket launchers, Iris-T air defence ammunition and Patriot air defence systems.

“If Europe had to go to war with Russia, the ammunition would run out within days,” a European diplomat told the agency.

As noted by the newspaper, the decision on additional arms stockpiles will be approved by NATO countries at the next summit of the alliance, which is to be held in Vilnius in July 2023. Around 40 countries, including the bloc’s partners, are expected to take part in the summit.

Earlier, amid a series of high-profile corruption scandals and dismissals of top officials from Zelenskyy’s entourage, a team of auditors from three US agencies arrived in Ukraine to review the mechanism of aid distribution from the USA.
