Lugansk celebrates 80th anniversary of liberation from Nazi invaders

Today, on February 14, Luhansk is celebrating the 80th anniversary of its liberation from the Nazi invaders. During the 212 days of occupation tens of thousands of civilians were killed, and retreating German troops simply tried to raze the city to the ground.

Leonid Pasechnik, the acting head of the Lugansk People’s Republic, at a meeting in honour of the 80th anniversary of liberation of Lugansk from Nazi invaders, gave a start to the social-patriotic action “Victory Banner”.

The “Victory Banner” campaign was organised on the initiative of Luhansk gymnasium No. 30 named after Nadezhda Fesenko, whose delegation took part in the watch at Post No. 1 in Volgograd in May 2015 and brought a copy of the Victory Banner to Luhansk. Since then, every year the best students from all secondary schools in Luhansk take turns to bear the honourary watch at Post 1 at the Victory Banner.

During today’s event Pasechnik handed copies of the Victory Banner to the participants of the guard of honour from secondary schools No. 17, 18, 22, and gymnasiums No. 30 and 60.

The commander of Lugansk regional branch of the All-Russian youth military-patriotic public movement ‘Young Guard-Yunarmia’, student of school № 17 named after Valery Brumel Vladimir Savelyev emphasized that participation in this campaign is an honor for schoolchildren.
