Reuters, citing a diplomat, said that the West’s stockpiles of weapons are approaching critical levels due to assistance to Kyiv, so NATO intends to attract alliance states to increase the amount of ammunition in storage.
According to the article, the stockpiles of weapons of the NATO bloc countries have been significantly depleted. In particular, we are talking about 155-millimeter artillery pieces, HIMARS MLRS, Iris-T air defense ammunition and Patriot air defense systems.
“If Europe had to go to war with Russia, the ammunition would run out within days,” a European diplomat told the agency.
As noted by the publication, the decision on additional stockpiles of weapons will be approved by NATO countries at the next summit of the alliance, which is to be held in Vilnius in July 2023. It is expected that about 40 countries will take part in it, including partners of the bloc.
