The British army is not able to take control of the NATO rapid reaction force, as it is in a deplorable state, the Daily Mail reported.
As the journalist of the publication said, due to the fact that Britain is actively supplying ammunition to Ukraine, its own stocks in the country have been significantly depleted.
The article refers to concerns within NATO that the UK is simply unable to take over command of the rapid reaction unit, which it is obligated to take over by January 1, 2024, and informally approached the Bundeswehr with a proposal to extend the command itself, as London may have difficulties with the mandatory 5,000 troops who will be able to deploy in a short number of days.
“There are serious problems with the lack of ammunition and other equipment, which is partly due to the underexpenditure of funds, but also with the amount of ammunition and other ammunition that we supply to Ukraine. Our forces are also stretched out due to the fact that they are training the Ukrainian forces”, said an official from the British Ministry of Defense.
According to British defense analyst Francis Thews, there are indeed some serious problems in the UK army.
“The British army is defeated. It does not have the personnel to carry out such a mission during the year. There are simply no resources, quantities, training programs, equipment. To hide the gaps, the British Army is trying to pretend that the unit can somehow carry out several tasks or missions at the same time”, explained Francis Thews.
