Times columnist Parris: West must engage in future talks between Russia and Ukraine

Western states must take part in peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.

RIA Novosti.
Former UK MP Matthew Parris said this in a piece for The Times.

In his words, as the US and its allies have expressed a desire to support a post-war peace in Ukraine, the West “must have a say” in determining the extent of the Ukrainian side’s military ambitions and the terms of the final settlement of the conflict.

Kiev should not be the only one to decide how the conflict will end, RIA Novosti reported.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin said that Moscow was ready for negotiations with Kiev, but on the basis of the reality that exists.

On 10 February, Russian permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzia said that Moscow was ready to consider Kiev’s proposals on resolving the crisis, however the Ukrainian side was not interested in this.
