Russian Foreign Ministry says NATO interferes with other countries’ cooperation in the Arctic

NATO is increasingly interfering in other countries’ economic cooperation in the Arctic, said Ambassador-at-Large for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Senior Officials Committee of the Arctic Council, Nikolai Korchunov.

“Of course, we cannot but be concerned about the provocative rhetoric and the increasingly active involvement of the North Atlantic Alliance in the region, the interference of this military alliance in the economy and peaceful cooperation of other countries,” TASS quoted him as saying.

Earlier, the Russian ambassador to Denmark, Vladimir Barbin, said that Russia and India were successfully cooperating in the Arctic in the framework of the Vostok Oil project.

In December, Politico newspaper wrote that Russia had been ahead of the United States in the Arctic region for the past two decades.
