Syrian Foreign Ministry comments on US decision to withdraw humanitarian aid from sanctions

The Syrian Foreign Ministry commented on the US decision to withdraw humanitarian aid from sanctions amid the earthquake in the Syrian Arab Republic, calling it another formality.

AFP
SANA news agency quoted the ministry as saying this.

Damascus called misleading the US administration’s decision to “partially and temporarily freeze some of the murderous, coercive and unilateral measures” imposed on the Syrian people.

It is noted that this “is nothing more than a repetition of previous formal decisions aimed only at giving a false impression of humanism”.

Earlier, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said that no sanctions should stand in the way of earthquake aid to Syria.

Later, the US Treasury Department said that Washington had removed earthquake relief activities against Syria from sanctions until 8 August 2023.
