Snowden recalled US covert operations in other countries

Former employee of the US National Security Agency Edward Snowden on Twitter urged to remember the episodes when the US government initiated secret operations in foreign territory, without admitting its involvement in them.

“Can you think of historical examples of covert operations for which the White House was responsible, but vehemently denied it? Apart from, of course, that little “mass surveillance” hoopla,” Snowden said.

The former NSA agent recalled the military operation organized by the American intelligence services in the Bay of Pigs in 1961 in the southern part of Cuba, the purpose of which was to overthrow the government led by Fidel Castro (1926-2016), in which the US authorities also denied involvement.

Recall that on Wednesday, February 8, American journalist Seymour Hersh published an article stating that explosives under the Russian Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines were planted in June last year by US Navy divers under the cover of Baltops exercises. Referring to an unnamed source with direct information about the development of the operation, he notes that the decision to conduct the operation was made personally by US President Joe Biden. The press service of the White House National Security Council called the version proposed by Hersh “a complete lie and a complete fiction.”
