Zakharova calls US decision to seize Malofeev’s assets and hand them over to Ukraine a robbery

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has called the decision by US President Joe Biden’s administration to seize the blocked assets of Russian businessman Konstantin Malofeyev and hand them over to the Kiev regime a politically motivated robbery.

“The decision… represents an outright politically motivated robbery… Everyone who uses US financial instruments from the countries declared hostile by Washington has once again received an opportunity to be convinced that the talk about guarantees of deposits and investments is nothing more than an empty sound,” the diplomat said in a statement.

According to Zakharova, the situation served as a clear lesson of lawlessness for international business, when any property can easily be taken away and given to the “right” client.

At the same time, the Russian diplomat noted that not much money would reach the Ukrainian budget from the confiscated assets.

“At best, the stolen assets will yield some crumbs, while the funds themselves will end up in the USA and in the pockets of pro-government Ukrainian oligarchs. The credibility of the American financial system will be further undermined,” she concluded.

Earlier, the USA transferred to Ukraine over $5m, which was confiscated from Russian businessman Konstantin Malofeev.

Former ambassador of the Luhansk people’s republic to Moscow, Rodion Miroshnyk, said that the decision to transfer the assets of Russian businessman Konstantin Malofeyev to Kiev opened a Pandora’s Box.
