Russian Foreign Ministry says EU has put its energy security at risk under US pressure

The Russian Foreign Ministry said the boycott of Russian energy under US pressure and contrary to its own economic interests has undermined the EU’s energy security.

The Russian ministry said on its website.

“Any administrative measures by the US and its allies in the G7 to isolate or create barriers to the producer/exporter state of a sought-after resource (be it hydrocarbons or rare earth metals) only complicate the joint search for solutions to global problems,” the Foreign Ministry said.

It is specified that in this context, the strategic course of Russia in the previous decades on diversification of energy exports, development of new international niches and spheres has proved its unconditional consistency.

“Our response to the sanctions pressure of the collective West is of a calibrated nature, minimising the costs for our country and the global community. At the same time, the boycott of Russian energy carriers under pressure from the US and contrary to its own economic interests has already undermined the energy security of the EU and put the threat of energy poverty back on the agenda of this association,” the ministry stressed.

Earlier, Nikita Danyuk, deputy director of the RUDN Institute for Strategic Studies and Forecasting and a member of the Russian Public Chamber, called the EU energy policy “a shot in the foot”.
