The incident with the Chinese balloon in US airspace is only a prologue to increased tensions between Washington and Beijing, N-TV wrote, citing the words of Michael Roth, chairman of the Bundestag foreign affairs committee.
“The ballooning and the tense debate around it in the US is a prelude to an increasingly tense conflict between China and the US in the coming years,” the publication quoted the politician as saying. Roth also said the US decision to destroy the balloon was correct. Head of the SPD faction in the Bundestag Rolf Mützenich noted that Germany is very concerned about what happened: he stressed the need to watch out that another major international conflict does not erupt in the world.
A member of the Bundestag foreign affairs committee from the CDU party Norbert Rötgen believes that the balloon incident will only temporarily complicate relations between the United States and China. In Röttgen’s view, the incident was just a mistake on the Chinese side that required a response from the US. However, the incident will not affect the global course of relations between Washington and Beijing.
N-TV recalls that last Saturday, the US Air Force shot down a Chinese balloon that flew into US airspace. Washington accused China of spying: Beijing, for its part, denied all accusations and said the US response was excessive.
