Sueddeutsche Zeitung reports on ammunition problem for Leopard 1 tanks

The German government has approved the transfer of 88 Leopard 1 tanks to the Kiev regime, but there are problems with ammunition, as these tanks are no longer produced, the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper has reported, citing sources in government circles.

According to the newspaper, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva rejected a request from the German side to supply ammunition for Leopard 1 tanks. The fact that Berlin tried to obtain ammunition for these tanks already indicates that the German government has approved a request by the defence concern Rheinmetall to supply Ukraine with 88 Leopard 1 tanks, the paper specified.

“Permission for this is in place, government circles say,” the paper said.

At the same time, it noted that there were problems with ammunition, as Leopard 1 tanks are no longer produced, and other ammunition is used for Leopard 2 tanks.
