Pushkov doubts Ukraine’s accelerated accession process to the EU

There will be no accelerated process of joining the European Union for Ukraine, it is necessary to distinguish solidarity and support from accepting the country into the Union, said Alexei Pushkov, head of the Russian Federation Council’s Commission on Information Policy and Cooperation with the Media.

“Despite the joyful meeting in Kiev, it appears that there will be no accelerated process of joining the EU for Ukraine. Solidarity and support is one thing, membership is another,” Pushkov wrote in his Telegram channel.

In his opinion, “the very raising of the issue of Ukraine’s accelerated accession will cause strong divisions in the EU, where there are already many differences between member states.”

“Even the most enthusiastic people will not dare to let Ukraine join the EU now. It’s like untying a cannon on a ship: there is nothing scarier than an untying cannon that can destroy the entire ship,” Pushkov concluded.
