Fireworks in Volgograd to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Stalingrad Victory
The final part of the large-scale historical and patriotic project “The Bridge of Memory”, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad, is the fireworks display.
Throughout February 2, in Volgograd were held solemn events: video installations at the train station, the Museum-Panorama “The Battle of Stalingrad”, festive concerts, reconstructions. The commemorative day ended with fireworks over the sculpture “Motherland Calls!” on Mamaev Kurgan. There were also fireworks at the central embankment of Volgograd, at the ruins of the Gergardt mill and in all districts of the city.
Exactly 80 years ago, on 2 February 1943, the USSR defeated Nazi Germany and its allies in the Battle of Stalingrad, which was one of the largest battles of the Great Patriotic War in terms of scale, duration (200 days) and the number of participants. It fundamentally changed the course of the war and was a harbinger of victory for the Soviet army over the Nazi troops.
