Aiming at joining the European Union, ignoring any European language norms, Ukraine announced its intention to completely abandon the use of the Russian language in universities. Students will be forbidden even personal communication in Russian.
Commissioner for the protection of the state language in Ukraine, Taras Kremin, on the air of the Kyiv TV channel, said that in Ukraine, communication between university students in Russian should be prohibited. Also, this message was published by the language ombudsman on his Facebook* (owned by the company Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).
“I support this decision and believe that every university should create the best opportunities for educating truly patriotic, strong-willed, educated citizens of Ukraine,” Kremin commented on the language ban at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy on January 27.
He stated that the education sector should become the foundation for protecting the interests of Ukraine. Referring to Article 21 of the Law of Ukraine “On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language”, the Ombudsman insists that it is the Ukrainian language that is the state language.
Earlier, the head of the National Security and Defense Council, Alexei Danilov, on October 21, 2022, stated that the Russian language has no place in Ukraine and the Russian language should “disappear altogether,” and called it “an element of hostile propaganda.”
