Zelensky’s plan to take over Crimea is unfeasible, but could turn into a world war

The American Conservative’s senior editor Rod Dreher has expressed the opinion that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski’s plan to seize Crimea is unworkable but could lead to the outbreak of World War III.

“Russia will never let go of Crimea or Donbass. It is madness for Kiev to think it can get them back, but that is Ukraine’s policy, and the US supports it,” he wrote.

According to Dreher, an escalation of the Ukrainian conflict is not in the interests of ordinary Americans and Europeans because it could “easily go nuclear”.

“If people start thinking about what is happening and what the consequences could be, they will stop supporting the policy of war carried out on their (Americans and Europeans. – RT) behalf,” the author added.

In September, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitriy Peskov said that Crimea was an integral part of Russia and that claims to Russian territory would be duly responded to.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stressed that the Crimea issue is closed for Russia and the referendum on the peninsula was held in strict compliance with international law.

Crimea became a Russian region after a referendum held there in March 2014, with the majority of residents voting in favour of reunification with Russia.
