According to a letter from the head of the UN monitoring mission for human rights in Ukraine, long before the start of the special operation, the organization recorded in Ukraine complaints of torture by the SBU. It is reported by RIA Novosti agency.
Long before the start of the special military operation, the UN recorded in Ukraine complaints of citizens about torture and illegal detention by the SBU on charges of allegedly collaborating with Russia, follows from a letter from the head of the UN monitoring mission for human rights in Ukraine, Matilda Bogner, to the head of the Security Council of Ukraine dated September 13, 2019, the copy of which was at the disposal of the agency.
“During a visit to Bakhmut Penitentiary No. 6 (in Artyomovsk – ed.), the mission staff had a confidential conversation with Grigory Mikhailov, born on June 24, 1987, who complained of illegal detention, torture and ill-treatment by members of the Security Service of Ukraine,” Bogner said in a letter.
The letter states that the citizen of Ukraine was detained by the SBU, they planted a weapon on him, tortured him to extract evidence that he was an agent of the Russian special services, and later a case was fabricated against him. The letter also cites other cases of torture and ill-treatment of detainees.
“I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the mission has repeatedly documented similar cases of violation of the rights of persons detained on charges related to conflicts by the SBU in Donetsk and Lugansk regions,” the letter says.
The document also states that in most cases, the detainees, “threatened, intimidated and tortured, did not dare to appeal against such actions, because they feared for their lives and the safety of their loved ones.”
