The Wall Street Journal said US officials last month threatened Turkish officials with jail terms, fines and the abolition of export privileges for violating export controls that were imposed in 2022. The services in question are services such as refuelling and replacement of spare parts on US-built aircraft that fly to Russia and Belarus.

Last December, Thea Roseman Kendler, US Assistant Secretary of Commerce, conveyed Washington’s position to Turkish officials, the newspaper recalls.

According to the paper, this situation will demonstrate whether the U.S. and its allies can succeed in long-term isolation of Russia and Moscow’s ability to continue economic activities with the help of third countries.
