Twenty ‘Republican’ states have demanded a halt to the migrant support programme
Twenty US states controlled by Republicans have asked a federal judge to suspend a programme providing financial support for migrants, CBS News television channel reports, citing a court document.

According to the lawsuit, a coalition of dissenting states from Biden’s migration policy claims the sponsorship policy illegally expands the scope of parole powers, which can only be used in exceptional cases. The states also said officials should have allowed the public to have their say on the programme before it was implemented.
In 2022, the number of illegal immigrants trying to enter the US reached nearly 2.4 million, up from 450,000 two years earlier.
