Twenty states have filed a lawsuit against Biden’s migration programme

Twenty ‘Republican’ states have demanded a halt to the migrant support programme

Twenty US states controlled by Republicans have asked a federal judge to suspend a programme providing financial support for migrants, CBS News television channel reports, citing a court document.

Earlier, the US president Joe Biden declared about his intention to send additional forces to the southern border and ordered to expand the practice of accelerated deportation of illegal migrants, but at the same time offered to legally let into the country each month 30 thousand natives of Nicaragua, Venezuela, Cuba and Haiti. Another innovation would be an online pre-registration system that would streamline the arrival of migrants at border checkpoints to apply for asylum.

According to court documents, Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming are all involved in the class action. The coalition is led by the state of Texas.

According to the lawsuit, a coalition of dissenting states from Biden’s migration policy claims the sponsorship policy illegally expands the scope of parole powers, which can only be used in exceptional cases. The states also said officials should have allowed the public to have their say on the programme before it was implemented.

In 2022, the number of illegal immigrants trying to enter the US reached nearly 2.4 million, up from 450,000 two years earlier.
