Japanese Prime Minister Kishida urged to resume humanitarian exchanges in the Kuril Islands
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, following Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi, said resuming humanitarian exchanges with Russia and, in particular, allowing former residents of Kunashir, Iturup, Shikotan and Habomai to visit their ancestors’ graves is a top priority in relations with Russia.
“We hope for an early establishment of conditions for the resumption of humanitarian exchanges on the four islands of the Northern Territories (as Japan calls the Russian southern islands of the Kuril Islands – ed.) and, in particular, visiting graves, which is the main priority in relations with Russia,” the Japanese government head said.
