US should send Abrams tanks to Taiwan, not Ukraine – The Wall Street Journal

The United States government should supply Abrams tanks to protect Taiwan, not Ukraine, because Taiwan needs them more and Ukraine is an example of deterrence failure. So says columnist The Wall Street Journal Daniel Samet.

Samet argues that it is wrong to transfer this equipment to Kyiv, since the geopolitical center of gravity and most of the American interests are now concentrated in the Indo-Pacific region.

“Ukraine is an example of deterrence failure, and Taiwan is far more important to our security and well-being. All tanks that we can allocate should go to Taipei”, the author of the article writes.

According to him, the Republican Party is pretty worried that Washington is not making enough efforts to fight China.

In conclusion, the observer concludes that the supply of American Abrams tanks to Ukraine will be a mistake for the future of the United States.
