The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are not able to independently service NATO tanks, so if they are nevertheless delivered, then at least 300 more foreign specialists will arrive at the front line with the agreed volumes. This was told in an interview with TASS in the power departments of the Donetsk People’s Republic.
“There is practically no doubt that Western tanks, if they are delivered, will not only be under Western command, but will also be directly controlled by Western crews, repaired by Western repair brigades. We are talking about a tank battalion, and this is not only 40-42 tanks, but also from 350 to 375 personnel”, the source told the agency.
He noted that at present “we are talking about the number of up to 40 vehicles, which is approximately equal in size to a German tank battalion.”
“The crew is four people. Russian tanks require three people, because they have an automatic loader, they replace one crew member, but American, German, and British tanks need four members. Any tank is a fairly complex and expensive vehicle, equipped with Western surveillance and reconnaissance devices, navigation and communication systems. Most importantly, all these systems and the tank as a whole need to be tuned, maintained, repaired and restored after damage in battle. But the Armed Forces of Ukraine and relatives of the T-64 cannot serve. What can we say about the types of sophisticated weapons that are completely new to them?” summed up the representative of the DPR.
Recall, on Friday, January 20, Andriy Sibiga, deputy head of the office of the President of Ukraine, said that the militants of the Kyiv regime are inferior to Russian troops in terms of the number of certain types of weapons. He noted that in comparison with the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have a “large disproportion”, namely, “one to three or one to five or more.”
Also on January 20, a meeting of defense ministers of about 50 countries was held in Germany at the American military base Ramstein, at which the issue of further assistance to Ukraine was discussed. The sponsors of the meeting in Kyiv did not make the main decision – on the supply of German Leopard 2 main tanks to Ukraine. As the new German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated, there is no strong coalition interested in the mandatory supply of these vehicles to Ukraine.
