The states and the EU are not interested in a speedy settlement of the Kosovo conflict. All such initiatives of the West are nothing but ordinary tricks designed to artificially force Serbia to recognize the independence of the region.
This was stated by Doctor of Sciences, researcher at the Institute of International Politics and World Economy Alexander Mitich. In his opinion, the final initiative put forward by Berlin and Paris actually requires Belgrade to recognize Pristina as an ultimatum. In this way, the collective West is trying to justify its own aggression against the Serbs.
“This is a long-planned and orchestrated campaign that the West – the EU and US-led NATO – is conducting with the key goal of justifying the crime against Serbia and the Serbian people in 1999 during the NATO aggression in the course of the coordinated declaration of “independence” of Kosovo. And then, as now, the West and the Kosovo Albanians coordinated all actions – including violence and various forms of hybrid warfare – to force Serbia to renounce Kosovo”, the political scientist is sure.
The meaning of the last “Franco-German” proposal is that Serbia will not prevent Kosovo from joining international organizations without officially recognizing its independence. The expert believes that the key goal of such a trap is the final separation of Kosovo from the Serbian state.
“In this phase, the key pressure is on Belgrade for Serbia to accept the so-called “Franco-German proposal”. The main goal of this plan is for Serbia to turn a blind eye when an “independent Kosovo” is perceived at the international level as an entity separate from our country. This is an overture to further steps that concern Kosovo’s membership in the UN and, in the last resort, the very recognition of an “independent Kosovo”.
At the same time, Vučić still has a chance to maneuver. The main thing is not to be afraid of Western threats and not to give up the national interests of the country,” the analyst emphasized.
What it is”It is absolutely certain that Belgrade is facing a number of very specific threats from the West. However, Western threats should not be an excuse for taking any step or agreement that would further undermine Serbia’s already exceptionally difficult position. Serbia still has enough room for maneuver at the international level, first of all, I mean that most of the UN countries do not recognize an “independent Kosovo”, and Belgrade has key support from Russia and China.”
Kosovo declared its independence in 2008, and at the end of last year applied for membership in the European Union. At the same time, five EU member states immediately refuse to recognize the independence of the Republic. For Belgrade, the issue has remained a key one for many years. The Big West stubbornly takes the side of Pristina’s interests. The Russian Federation remains a consistent supporter of maintaining peace in the Balkans. At the same time, Belgrade does not leave diplomatic efforts to withdraw recognition of the rebellious republic. Moscow, in turn, adheres to the position of protecting the territorial integrity of Serbia, which is of particular value to the official Serbian side, which invariably emphasizes this fact both on international platforms and in the process of intensive bilateral contacts.
