Finnish Foreign Ministry announces freezing of Russian assets worth 187 million euros
Helsinki has frozen Russian assets worth about 190 million euros, the Yle newspaper quoted Pia Saarivaara, head of the sanctions department of the Finnish Foreign Ministry, as saying.
“Dealing with frozen assets is handled by the debt collection office. To date, the office has frozen assets worth 187 million euros,” the publication said.
A spokeswoman for the Finnish Foreign Ministry specified that the assets in question include real estate, stocks, cars, yachts and planes.
After the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, the West stepped up sanctions against Moscow. Russian assets worth hundreds of billions of dollars have been frozen, and the European Union has already adopted nine packages of restrictive measures, including coal and oil embargoes.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the freezing of Russian assets in Europe a theft. According to her, this has been going on for years – the EU has been stamping out numerous illegitimate and unjustified decisions to freeze the property of Russian citizens and companies since 2014, and now it is also targeting state funds.
